Ahhh the classic churro. A fair favorite and an American delight, these greasy, sugary deserts are surefire ways to put a smile on anyone's face. Though we commonly associate these delectable desserts to be associated with the cultures of Mexico, we're wrong. They're actually Spanish/Portuguese snacks- bet you didn't know that one!

Commonly made of choux dough, fried, and covered in cinnamon sugar, it's hard not to down a whole lot of them. Frying them in oil allows the churros to get their crispy outside, maintain a soft inside, and be covered in grease (ew)! Not only that, but they can seem intimidating and time consuming while making dough. I know that for myself, I hate dousing things in oil.

Have no fear! I have discovered a easy and super fast way to make these beauts. Best part- they are baked (say sorta healthy???)!
I was really craving baking something new and different to bake. In all honesty, I got the midnight snackies. Behold, I discovered these bad boys. I even made some extra to take into work and they were gone within minutes! Some of my co-workers even got upset that they didn't get to try any, so I even brought in another batch the following day! They were so easy to just keep making! That's the kind of ease we're talking about!

I have seen similar ideas on Pinterest on how to make them, but of course, everyone has their own special take on it. Churros are simple enough that you can add a dipping sauce (someone say chocolate?) or fruit! Feel free to add your own spin to it.
Some key tips:
1. When placing butter and cinnamon-sugar on the churros, place the butter in one bowl and the cinnamon-sugar mixture in another. I used a square Corningware for each to make rolling easier.
2. You can roll the churro in the butter, but using a basting brush to coat it in butter also makes things a lot easier!
Speedy Churros
Makes ~16 Churros
Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 package of frozen pastry dough
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1.5 Tbsp cinnamon
Steps:
1. Defrost pastry dough and preheat oven according to package
2. "Unroll" the pastry dough so that it is flat. Cut lengthwise into about 8 long strips. If you wish to make smaller churros, cut these in half "heightwise"
3. Place slices on a baking sheet and bake between 8 and 10 minutes, until they are golden and flaky.
4. While baking, melt butter and prepare cinnamon-sugar mix by combining the cinnamon and sugar in a large bowl.
5. Remove churros from oven. While still warm, coat in butter, then roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
6. Serve and enjoy!
